The Games at Tara have historically included traditional Highland Games events, as well as other medieval competitions such as Spear, Dart, Axe, Archery, and Kilted Mile. The winner of each event was warded a medal at the awards ceremony. Most desired is to be named The Champion of Tara for the year. The Champion is *not* whoever won the most events. it is the person judged to most completely display the traits of the champion of the tribe, in full participation, sportsmanship, and service to others. the Champion is awarded a special prize and given free entry to the next year. In recent years the Champions Blade has been handcrafted by Russell Criswell, owner of Vulcan's Forge and master craftsman.
In 2014 The Festival of Tara will 're-boot' to a format more centered on Community. The focus will shift away from the heavy athletic competition and more focus will be on bardic, cooking, brewing, and crafting skills in a celebration of the lives of our Ancestors, and the legacy we all hold in our hearts.
